Supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Lebanon, Berytech is organizing for the second year a series of Ideathons covering three different areas in Lebanon: North Lebanon, Mount Lebanon and Bekaa partnering with three universities in Lebanon. The Ideathons are an exciting opportunity for developers, creatives, tech enthusiasts, engineers, entrepreneurs, innovators, business professionals, and university students who want to collaborate and innovate in the agriculture, food, renewable energy, waste and water sectors over the course of one weekend.

If you have a business idea you’d like to pursue or a problem you’d like to solve but don’t know where to start or who to start with, Berytech Ideathon is the place to look for a team, validate your business idea, receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs and mentors, and get started on your entrepreneurial journey, all in one weekend. Many of last year’s participants took it from there to further develop their startups, join bigger programs, get all the needed support to grow, be recognized and win larger local and global competitions. This year, it can be your turn!

To participate you can apply as a team or an individual, with or without a particular idea. On Friday night, you’ll pitch your own idea or listen to others pitching theirs, and after voting for the most interesting ideas, teams are formed. Over the course of the weekend, mentors, entrepreneurs and industry experts will be there to guide you on validating, developing and fine-tuning your business idea and pitch. Pitching will take place on Sunday evening in front of a jury that will announce the 3 winners of the Ideathon.

Then, they took part in the Agrytech Hackathon 2018, got enrolled in Agrytech Accelerator Batch 2, and they’re currently finalists of the program. They recently won the 2019 Hult Prize Lebanon semifinals, which earned them a spot at the Hult Prize Global Accelerator program in London and kept them in the running for the first prize of $1 million in seed capital. The team also won the 3rd prize of the UN environment West Asia Award and will attend the Science, Policy and Business forum in the Fourth Session of the UN Environment Assembly – UNEA4.

IoTree: The smart solution to monitor and protect each farmer's plot

IoTree journey started during the Startup Weekend Mount Lebanon organized by Berytech, in which they won the first prize, making their way to competing in and winning the first prize of the Agrytech Hackathon 2018. They got a direct pass to the Agrytech Accelerator, and they’re currently among the finalists of batch 2 of the program. IOTree won awards in the LIRA Fund 2018 ceremony, the Lira 14th Forum. The CEO Nisrine El Turky got awarded as one of the top 3 women entrepreneurs of the year in the Arab countries. Then, the team applied to Agerytech Accelerator and they got selected to enter Batch 2 of the program, finishing the Bootcamp and Acceleration phase, and being currently in the last phase – the incubation phase. Yes, the venue will be accessible for participants to work from and stay in from the time the event opens on Friday until the winners are announced on Sunday. Hot beverages and water will be served all through the event. Participants are advised to bring with them necessary items like deodorant, warm clothes, earphones, a pair of socks and underwear, toothbrush and toothpaste, and phone chargers during the event.

As a team, you are expected to present a pitch deck about your suggested business model for your solution in a 3-minute pitch.

We recommend between 3 to 5 team members that have various skills including development, business, and design. However, we don’t have a limit to the number of people working on one idea.

If you are one person and don’t have a team to apply with, you have 2 options: (1) Apply with an idea, and either work on it alone or work with a team formed during the Team Formation on Friday, or (2) Apply with no idea, and join a team working on a cool idea you like.

Yes absolutely! If you don’t have an idea to work on, you can still participate in this amazing experience. At the event kick-off, there will be a Team Formation segment where teams and people will be matched based on skills and cool ideas they want to work on during the weekend.
